Beat the Heat in Brazosport

 

The Texas summer heat is brutal at times.  There is no better way to overcome the heat than enjoying the nice air conditioned space of the indoors or cooling off in the nice cool ocean!  Here are some great ways to beat the heat in Brazosport this summer that are sure to keep you cool!

Sea Center Texas

Sea Center Texas is a marine aquarium, fish hatchery and education center located on 75 acres in Lake Jackson, Texas.  The museum includes a visitor center with aquaria and exhibits of Texas marine life, the largest redfish hatchery in the world, 36 one-acre fish culture ponds, an outdoor wetland exhibit and a youth fishing pond.  Fiberglass replicas of state record saltwater fishes hover overhead in the lobby of the visitor Center. The 25 fiberglass mounts include popular bay sport fish like flounder, black drum and red drum as well as offshore species such as blue marlin, tarpon and red snapper. And of course, there are several large sharks.  Free admission, donations appreciated.

Lake Jackson Historical Museum

Explore the unique history of the city of Lake Jackson at the 12,000 square foot Museum. The Museum chronicles the rich history of the city with interactive exhibits and high-tech displays. The Museum focuses on four eras of history including; the prehistoric era, the plantation era, development of the area’s petrochemical industry and the founding of modern Lake Jackson.  Visitors can visit with the ghost of Major Abner Jackson, fly the Windecker Eagle airplane for themselves and learn why our streets are named This Way and That Way.  Free admission.

Visit the Beach

There’s no better way to cool off than being in the water! There are 27 miles of sandy beaches in the Brazosport Area perfect for sunbathing, shelling, camping, fishing, and relaxing under the Texas sun.

Monday Movie at the Library

Every Monday at 2pm at the Clute Branch Library, they will be featuring a different movie.  All events free and all ages welcome.

The Center for the Arts & Sciences

The Center is a cultural and educational complex that features an art gallery, a science museum, a planetarium and two performance theaters in Clute.  The Center is home to the longest running community theater on the Texas Gulf Coast and offers five major productions each season performing in either the arena or proscenium theater. The museum contains the largest seashell collection in the South along with fossils, including dinosaurs and mammoth bones. Other exhibits feature Texas coastal wildlife and a unique jade and ivory collection. The planetarium has shows every Tuesday. Visitors can also view images from the Hubble telescope in the lobby through View-Space.
